LAND AND AGRICULTURE AT
CHANGENOW 2025

HOW TO ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES OF LAND AND AGRICULTURE AT CHANGENOW 2025?

We must simultaneously feed 10 billion people  sustainably by 2050 while minimizing the global impact of our agri-food system.

Around one-third of the world’s arable land is degraded. Yet, healthy soils play a crucial role in combating climate change by capturing and storing carbon.

Today, agriculture is:

  • The leading cause of biodiversity loss, driven by pesticide and chemical use, as well as habitat destruction from deforestation.
  • The primary contributor to water scarcity.
  • The second-largest driver of climate change, responsible for a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions due to excessive fertilizer use, intensive livestock farming, and land-use changes.

Reshaping our agricultural systems is an urgent necessity.
